Since it’s founding in 1912, the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital has been a key fixture in the City of Oakland. SANDIS is working with HDR Architecture an a phased development multiple new facilities including a new outpatient center, new patient pavilion, new parking garage, new central utility plant, new family residence building, new administration building, and improvements to 52nd Street.

The project had multiple complex issues to resolve before construction, one being acquisition of Caltrans Right of Way. It was also necessary to relocate a historic home located on the expanded campus that had been used as an administration office since 2001. SANDIS assisted with the preparation and planning as well as the entitlements and master plan for the project as a whole.

This project also included extensive traffic control planning and offsite improvements to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and 52nd Street. A very busy intersection in the heart of Oakland, CA that required multiple lane realignments and phasing stages to implement the final design.
