After two decades of planning and preparation, a ground-breaking ceremony was held in August 2020 at the development site for the Big Wave Project. A project started by four parents with special needs children, the site development provides a venue and family support for adults with special needs as well as ensuring that they have affordable housing, job and career opportunities, and emotional and community support from organizations involved in the project.
The Big Wave Project development will be the first California-based intentional community. The project is located along Airport Street in unincorporated San Mateo County with plans for an office park, mixed use development with wellness center and multi-family housing. Included are conservation easements along the property edges and the creation of public access parking.
