California State University Maritime Academy’s Mayo Hall was renovated by first demolishing non-historic sections to make room for a new single-story addition. This renovation allows in plenty of natural light and spectacular views of the Bay Area. The study room’s wood ceiling is from the old basketball gym. “The Concourse”, a main circulation space, connects various student life programs and cadet services. Mayo Hall is home to the existing gymnasium and natatorium, and its newer additions house a modern health services building as well as the admissions, registrar and financial aid departments. To highlight the history of Cal Maritime and its alumni, the Wall of Honor displays the academy’s relics and artifacts that were placed inside when the building was constructed in 1945.
