Field Hockey Stadium

Since regaining varsity status in 2009, field hockey competed on a bladed artificial turf at Aggie Stadium, a field that is more suited for football and lacrosse and leads to a much slower-paced game. By comparison, Aggie Field Hockey Facility sports a synthetic turf field that is a faster playing surface. Field hockey student-athletes and staff now have a field designed for their particular needs during games, additional flexibility in scheduling classes since the team will not need to share Aggie Stadium with other athletic programs and their respective practice, and competition schedules.

Sandis provided engineering and surveying services for the UC Davis Field Hockey Stadium. The project included a private donation that was tied to an aggressive schedule. We collaborated with the design team and UC Davis to ensure that completion of construction met this requirement. During design, our team prepared construction documents that included: grading/drainage plans, utility plans, and appropriate details. The field required a water cannon system to disperse water across the field at the beginning and half time of games. Sandis collaborated with the design team to develop the water distribution and capture design for this system, integrating requirements for water balance as required by the NPDES permits. This design included a sub-surface storage chamber as well as surface ponds for water infiltration. A utility plan was prepared to document storm drainage, domestic water service, and included the identification of potential future utility services for future planned facilities. Sandis finalized the plans and construction documents with technical specifications for the civil scope of work based upon University standard specifications. Our team also supported the project through the bidding and construction administration phase.
