This past fall and winter, the Sandis team traveled near and far to attend various university career fairs, a geomatics conference, and Construction Trades Day to meet college and high school students. At these events, our team gets to connect with not only students but also vendors, professors, and hosts who all put in a great deal of work to make the day a success. Sandis has hired many people from these events! And for some of our employees, it’s a nostalgic experience to revisit their alma mater. It’s especially rewarding for them to pass down valuable knowledge and insight into the industry to prospective colleagues, the future generation in STEM. These young bright minds have so many questions. And our team has so many answers they’re happy to share.
Sandis folks who helped out with our recruitment season share some memorable highlights below.
“The hosts were wonderful and there was a small-town feel, most of the companies had people that knew our employees or projects.
It was a wonderful way to show these young high school students that you do not need a degree to be successful, if construction trades is your passion then you can make a great career out of it.” – Emily, HR
“There was a professor that wanted to deeply express his gratitude to our company for coming out and giving students an opportunity to view what the industry had to offer. I met many different types of students and it was fun giving advice and sharing my experiences all while recruiting.” – Nathaniel, Project Surveyor
“It was exciting to share with new engineers information I wish I knew as I was graduating from college and hopefully make the transition easier for them. Also, we just hired a new DE on our team that was one the the students who stopped by our table at the career fair!” – John-Marc, Project Engineer
“I spoke with a wide range of students who were about to graduate this year, just beginning their college career, knew exactly what field they want to specialize in, or had no idea what our company does. This was an encouraging experience and a reminder of my time in college, not knowing where I wanted to take my civil engineering career.” – Nicholas, Project Engineer
“For me, it is really special to meet students for the first time then potentially hire them because it builds a strong connection. I am involved in the hiring process from the day of meeting them up until the first day of work. We have hired current employees from these events, so I see it as a wonderful opportunity.” – Emily, HR
