A unique Eastbay institution UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (formerly Oakland Children’s Hospital) provides pediatric care as part of the broader UCSF hospital system. In collaboration with HDR architects Sandis provided civil engineering and surveying services for the master plan redevelopment of this historic campus. Beginning in 2012, the master plan encompassed extensive renovation and modernization of existing facilities, the development of a new patient pavilion, reconfiguring of campus access, and the development of a new outpatient clinic. One of the unique challenges was the acquisition of access right away from the adjacent Highway 24. Upon receiving entitlements, Phase 1 of the master plan was implemented with the construction of the Outpatient Center to a new 90,000 square-foot clinical space. Sandis’ work with the Children’s Hospital continues by supporting the master plan update and Phase 2 of the project.
