The 81st st Branch is the largest branch in the Oakland Public Library system, and at 21,000 square feet is also the first joint public library–school facility in Oakland. In addition to serving the public, the 81st St. Branch Library serves as the library for adjacent ACORN Woodland and EnCompass Academy schools.
Completed in 2011, the library was one of the city’s first municipal buildings to be LEED Silver certified. Sandis performed construction staking, as-built surveying, steel surveying for the 81st Branch of the Oakland Public Library. Sandis coordinated with construction and design teams, as well as city officials to ensure the project stayed on-time and within budget. The $14 million project was funded with both private and public funds including the Oakland Redevelopment Agency, the Oakland Unified School District, the Friends of the Oakland Public Library, as well as a California State Library Grant.
Sandis worked with the community and multiple funding agencies to complete this project, our commitment to building community is fundamental to every project we join, with communication, engagement as the foundation to great engineering solutions.
