Transbay Transit Center, San Francisco

Sandis was the on-call traffic engineer for the Transbay transit center, providing a wide range of services to the design and construction teams.

Sandis provided traffic engineering, traffic control design, and peer review services for a 10-year traffic control project for the multi-phased Transbay terminal redevelopment.
Sandis performed weekly and as-needed site/roadway inspections to confirm all traffic control measures were implemented correctly and documenting conditions that were deficient and/or dangerous. Sandis also attended weekly coordination meetings, run by Turner Construction, to coordinate and review various subcontractor work and ensure work is coordinated to minimize traffic and pedestrian impacts.

As the on-call traffic engineer, we also provided temporary traffic control, temporary signing/striping, and temporary signal design to account for various phases of construction. We prepared, updated, and managed overall traffic control and detour plan for roadways within the vicinity of the Transit Center. Additionally, Sandis provided surveying services on an as-needed basis, including a topographic survey and 3D scanning. Sandis also provided as-needed ADA and sidewalk design services throughout the project duration. To resolve any possible issues, Sandis also meet with the City and agency representatives throughout the project.

Sandis actively coordinated and managed all traffic control design and field services required. Further services include the creation of traffic control composite plan; professional opinion, reports and/or traffic control design assistance; traffic control plans on an as-needed basis; public agency interface; field safety assessments and recommendations; site visits to review traffic control site conditions; observation report on traffic control compliance; monitor and manage compliance of all daily traffic inspection reports; monitor and manage compliance of all on-site traffic control signage; traffic monitoring services, as needed; traffic control field supervision; and participation in traffic control meetings.
