Sandis provided civil engineering and QSD services to Las Positas College’s new agriculture science facility. The latest addition to the college’s horticulture department is a 1,980 square-foot shade house that offers a haven to plants, providing filtered sunlight and ventilation; and includes a classroom, labs, state-of-the-art greenhouse, shade structure, growing grounds, an orchard area, and additional parking spaces. In Livermore where temperatures fluctuate greatly, climate control for plants is especially important. The horticulture program at Las Positas College puts students on the path to success in key horticultural fields such as landscape design and construction, nursery and greenhouse management, floral production design, and more. Students are empowered to connect with and contribute to the beautiful landscape of the California campus through the new facility.
The facility, with a butterfly roof canopy highlighting the beauty of the surrounding natural land, is a welcoming entrance and venue for outdoor learning, gathering, and public events. The 2018 Facilities Master Plan was drafted in 2017 and drew significant input from students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
